About Mil Mujeres Legal ServicesMil Mujeres Legal Services is a multistate nonprofit organization dedicated to providing immigration legal services to low-income survivors of violent crimes and their families. Our primary focus is assisting survivors of gender-based violence, ensuring they receive legal representation and support to navigate the immigration system effectively.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct legal representation in humanitarian immigration cases, including U visa, VAWA, and asylum applications.
- Conduct legal screenings and assess eligibility for immigration relief.
- Prepare and file applications and supporting documentation before USCIS and immigration courts.
- Represent clients in immigration court proceedings (affirmative and defensive), under supervision if needed.
- Maintain organized, up-to-date case files using case management software.
- Collaborate with paralegals and support staff to ensure effective case resolution.
- Stay current on immigration laws, regulations, and policies, particularly those related to humanitarian relief.
Qualifications and Experience:
Required:
- Active attorney license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 1 year of experience in immigration law, with exposure to U visa, VAWA.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
- Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
- Experience in asylum cases, including court representation (affirmative and defensive asylum).
- Membership in good standing in the bar of any state.
