LSLI is seeking an attorney for the Hempstead office's Public Benefits Unit, which provides legal advice and representation in matters related to income maintenance issues, including but not limited to Public Assistance, Medicaid, Food Stamps, Unemployment Insurance, and the administrative process of modifying child support obligations with DSS. The attorney will be handling matters from intake and informal advocacy through administrative hearings, trials, and appeals, as necessitated by the individual case. Participation in community legal education is also expected. Demonstrated commitment to the needs of underserved population and the goals of Legal Services is required. Both admitted attorneys and recent law graduates, if eligible to practice under our Student Practice Order, will be considered.

Requirements:
Admission to New York State Bar. Applicants who have passed the State Bar Examination and are pending admission will also be considered. Applicants who have taken the exam and are waiting to hear the results may be considered. Demonstrated commitment to the goals and clients of the legal services program.
