Overview:Bursor & Fisher, P.A. is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Staff Attorney to join its California litigation team. The ideal candidate will have approximately one to two years of legal experience, strong legal research and writing abilities, sound professional judgment, and a willingness to develop their skills in a collaborative litigation environment.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and analysis of federal and state statutes, regulations, case law, and procedural rules to support ongoing litigation matters.
- Prepare and assist in drafting legal memoranda, pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation-related documents under the guidance of experienced attorneys.
- Support motion practice by researching legal issues, analyzing relevant authorities, organizing supporting materials, and preparing draft legal arguments.
- Assist with written discovery, including the preparation and review of interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, and discovery responses.
- Review, analyze, and organize case documents, electronically stored information, and other evidence to identify relevant facts and legal issues.
- Support case investigations, factual development, document analysis, and the preparation of materials needed for ongoing litigation.
- Assist with deposition preparation, witness materials, and other litigation proceedings, with opportunities to assume additional responsibilities as experience develops and as permitted by applicable licensing requirements.
- Assist attorneys with preparation for hearings, mediations, settlement proceedings, and trials, including organizing exhibits, evidence, and supporting legal documents.
- Collaborate with partners, associates, paralegals, and litigation support professionals to ensure accurate and timely completion of assignments.
- Maintain organized case files, monitor assigned deadlines, and ensure compliance with applicable court rules, professional ethics, confidentiality obligations, and firm procedures.
- Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and sound professional judgment while managing multiple assignments and producing accurate, high-quality legal work.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school or another law school meeting applicable bar admission requirements.
- Active admission to a U.S. state bar and membership in good standing.
- California Bar admission preferred.
- Approximately one to two years of legal experience preferred. Candidates with additional relevant experience will also be considered.
- Strong legal research, analytical reasoning, legal writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze legal and factual information, identify relevant issues, and prepare well-organized written work.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Sound professional judgment, accountability, and a commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and legal support professionals.
- Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, integrity, and responsible handling of sensitive information.
- Willingness to learn, accept feedback, and develop litigation skills under the guidance of experienced attorneys.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in consumer class action litigation or complex civil litigation.
- Exposure to legal drafting, written discovery, document review, factual investigations, or litigation preparation.
- Familiarity with federal or California civil litigation procedures, including the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Interest in developing substantive litigation skills and contributing to a collaborative legal team.
