Job Duties:The Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia seeks to hire a full-time Staff Attorney in the Department of the Assistant Executive Secretary and Legal Counsel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Staff Attorney will include (i) serving as counsel to the Judicial Ethics Advisory Committee; (ii) providing legal advice and assistance with the administration of the hearing officer system; (iii) reviewing, editing and drafting contracts; (iv) assisting with oversight of the Supreme Court's judicial disqualification policy and procedures, including the designation of active judges and recall of retired judges to preside over recusal cases; (v) providing advice and guidance on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); (vi) conducting legal research and providing legal advice to staff in the Office of the Executive Secretary on a wide range of legal issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must: be licensed to practice law in Virginia and be in good standing with the Virginia State Bar; possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and have a sound working knowledge of Virginia court operations and the legal system. Preference will be given to applicants with some combination of the following: 2-5 years practice experience in Virginia's trial level state courts; experience reviewing and drafting contracts for government entities; prior experience with administrative hearings or knowledge of administrative law; and knowledge of the ADA.
