Position Summary:
House of Ruth is seeking a compassionate, trauma-informed Staff Attorney to provide survivor-centered legal advocacy and representation for individuals impacted by domestic violence and related trauma. The ideal candidate understands the complexities survivors face within legal systems and is committed to empowering clients through ethical, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed legal services.

This position is funded in whole or in part through the Cal OES Legal Assistance (XL) Program.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide legal consultation and representation in matters including:
  • Domestic Violence Restraining Orders
  • Child custody and visitation
  • Family law matters
  • Victim advocacy and related legal issues
  • Represent clients in court hearings and legal proceedings
  • Draft legal documents including pleadings, motions, and declarations
  • Collaborate with advocates, counselors, and community partners to support survivor safety and stability
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case documentation
  • Provide legal education and community outreach as needed

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required
  • Active member in good standing with the California State Bar
  • Experience in domestic violence, family law, legal aid, or related fields preferred
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed and survivor-centered advocacy
  • Excellent communication, legal writing, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred but not required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
