  • You will assist General Counsel in representing the Commission with litigation pending before the South Carolina Courts.
  • You will assist with deposition preparation for internal staff, external witnesses, and experts and track case statuses, prepare summaries of testimony and trial exhibits, and develop case strategy. You may act as lead counsel depending on the complexity of the issues involved.
  • You will assist with the drafting of single commissioner and appellate panel orders as assigned.
  • You will represent the Commission as counsel of record in administrative hearings for the assessment of fines and penalties.
  • You will research, draft, and submit all required Commission filings for administrative hearings and hold docketing and scheduling meetings with internal staff.


Minimum and Additional Requirements:
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and 1-3 years' experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Working knowledge of the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Act and Regulations.
  • Knowledge of the South Carolina Code of Laws.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws and judicial decisions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision.

Necessary Requirements:
  • Must be a member in good standing with the South Carolina Bar Association.
  • Must be admitted to practice law in the state of South Carolina.
  • Must have satisfied all Rule 403 requirements prior to beginning employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of the Workers' Compensation Act and South Carolina Law.
  • Prior litigation experience that includes direct involvement in civil or criminal litigation to include deposition preparation, tracking case statuses, preparing trial summaries of testimony and exhibits, and experience developing and executing case strategy.

Additional Comments:
  • Position may require overnight travel.
  • Position may require employees to work evenings and weekends.
  • Position may be required to travel to court and transport files.
