The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland is expanding to serve more clients and is seeking a Staff Attorney for our Family Practice Group!

Focus Areas:
Representing domestic violence survivors in Domestic Relations and Juvenile Court. This includes representation in divorce, custody, and protection orders.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide high quality legal representation to low-income people.
  • Provide counseling, advice and other brief services and referrals, as appropriate.
  • Co-counsel with other attorneys and work with paralegals.
  • Represent clients and client groups in litigation, administrative advocacy and other advocacy forums.
  • Engage in appellate work, complex and major litigation and other special projects.
  • Conduct outreach, community legal education, and provide appropriate referrals.
  • Participate in office meetings and professional development.
  • Participate in other activities related to poverty law including community education, writing of publishable materials, and permissible legislative and administrative advocacy in accordance with Legal Aid policy and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Commitment to Legal Aid's mission and experience working with low-income communities.
  • Juris Doctor (JD).
  • License to practice law in Ohio
  • Experience in a legal services / non-profit environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of recent developments in state and federal case, statutory, and regulatory law related to the interests of Legal Aid's clients.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and case management software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including attentiveness to cultural needs and differences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Notary Public.
  • Spanish language skills preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:
The 2026-27 salary range for Staff Attorney is $75,643 – $113,464. The top third of Legal Aid's salary ranges are reserved for those with deep skill sets, long tenure, and consistent exceptional performance.
