The Office of K. Edward Safir, Standing Chapter 13 Trustee, is accepting resumes for a Staff Attorney to assist in the administration of Chapter 13 proceedings in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia.We offer a professional, mission-driven environment with an excellent benefits package. We are seeking a collaborative, detail-oriented attorney with sound legal judgment and strong communication skills.
Core Responsibilities:
- Review debtor files to prepare for, and conduct, meetings of creditors.
- Prepare legal documents such as objections to confirmation, motions to dismiss, orders, objections to modifications, responses to pleadings, objections to proof of claim, and withdrawals of pleadings, exercising sound legal judgment.
- Review cases for eligibility under Chapter 13 and recommend confirmation, dismissal, or conversion.
- Represent the Trustee at all hearings before the Court, including confirmation hearings, motions to dismiss, and other matters as required.
- Communicate with the Court, debtors, debtors' attorneys, creditors, and creditors' attorneys regarding case information and requirements.
- Review and respond to correspondence, amendments, modifications, motions, and orders to determine the impact on the case.
- Make recommendations to the Court based on case activity.
- Assist staff with reviewing and resolving problems identified within cases.
- Review cases to identify whether they require business case treatment.
- Review cases subject to motions to dismiss and strict compliance dismissal.
- Collaborate with the Trustee, Director of Operations & Information Systems, and other staff attorneys to develop strategies, policies, and procedures for effective case administration.
- Review trade publications and case law updates to stay current on developments in bankruptcy law.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
- Active member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia
- Admission to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia
- Strong legal writing skills, with the ability to comprehend and apply legal and bankruptcy terminology
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Proficient knowledge of ECF and the bankruptcy software application
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks at once
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- A credit and background check is required.
