Job Description:
603 Legal Aid (603LA) has an opening for a Staff Attorney with 2-5 years of experience who will advocate to ensure that low-income and underserved residents in our community are provided excellent free legal advice and representation. Successful candidates will use their skills to identify and find solutions for clients who present with a variety of legal issues, including but not limited to, family law, domestic violence, housing, and consumer debt.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Advocacy:
  • Provide a spectrum of legal assistance from advice and counsel to extended representation to eligible clients across a wide range of civil legal
  • Maintain an active caseload of advice and counsel and full representation cases.
  • Co-counsel matters with other staff attorneys when necessary.
  • Provide legal supervision of paralegal and support staff.

Program Development and Evaluation
  • Maintain accurate case data and submit to funders quarterly programmatic reports as needed
  • Participate in internal planning and systems process analysis to ensure efficient and high-quality use of legal resources available to clients.
  • Participate in planning and applying for funding diversification including supporting

603 Legal Aid grant writing and other fund development activities.

Referrals and Community Relationships:
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other 603 LA staff and community partners to assure effective referrals and holistic service delivery.
  • Conduct community outreach, education, and training.
  • Develop relationships and engage in collaborations with a range of public and private community partners, including governmental agencies, courts, and community-based organizations, to ensure integrative services and address systemic barriers facing our client community.

Professional Responsibility:
  • Maintain a current knowledge of developments in law, civil procedure, and civil litigation law and strategies.
  • Continual professional development and substantive knowledge of all areas of law that impact 603LA clients.

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active New Hampshire law license (or ability to procure one within one year of hire).
  • 2-5 years of experience handling civil legal issues, litigation, and/or direct client representation.
  • Legal services background, or knowledge of general civil legal work.
  • Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to low-income and underserved communities.
  • Familiarity with NH Circuit Court practices and procedures preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Sound personal judgment.
  • Excellent critical thinking and evaluation skills.
  • Strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency to work with low-income clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and limited English proficiency.
  • Excellent detail-oriented writing, editing, and proof-reading skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a dynamic and multi- sector team.
  • Curious and self-directed with an ability to anticipate client needs.
  • Familiarity with diverse communities is a plus.
  • Comfortable providing services remotely or in person; capable of providing limited and extended

Salary/Benefits:
This position is full-time (37.5 hours weekly) and considered salaried-exempt for the purpose of federal wage/hour law. Salary DOE, expected to be between $60,000 - 80,000 annually per year, plus benefits package including medical, retirement, life and disability and generous paid time off. The Staff Attorney position is based in our Concord, NH office, which is currently hybrid remote.
