Description:
A 501(C)(3) Nonprofit Corporation seeks an energetic, passionate receptionist to join our team in fighting for justice for low-income and self-represented litigants and entrepreneurs in Orange County through innovative, collaborative, community-centered lawyering to address inequities and support access to justice throughout PLC's projects.PLC provides high quality legal services to low-income residents and nonprofit organizations in Orange County. Legal issues include Consumer Law and Bankruptcy, Family Law, Immigration, Housing and Homelessness Prevention, Veterans, Health Law, and Transactional Law assistance. Clients apply for assistance from PLC in all of those areas through specialized phone lines, community and courthouse-based clinics, and through community partner referrals, where staff and volunteers screen clients for eligibility as well as substantive merit.
Primarily responsible for providing legal support and completing regular reports for the Developmental Understanding and Legal Collaboration for Everyone (DULCE) Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP)
Position Requirements:
- Staff MLP legal clinics at Family Resource Centers in South Orange County, where clients are assisted on a holistic basis for a variety of civil legal issues
- Direct legal advocacy for individuals seeking help with matters related to accessing health benefits
- Direct legal advocacy for people living with HIV/AIDS through the AIDS Legal Assistance Project (ALAP), a partnership with Orange County Health Care Agency
- Handle a full caseload of cases on behalf of low-income clients dealing with civil legal issues related to health benefits, public benefits, immigration law, and family law
- Represent clients in administrative and court hearings
- Coordinate referrals to other PLC units as needed to provide holistic legal services to low-income clients
- Participate in collaborative advocacy efforts in coalition with other legal service providers and community partners
- Conduct community education presentations to clients, partner agencies, and service providers
- Oversee volunteer attorneys and law students through training, technical support and general supervision
- Participate in and help to coordinate legal clinics and workshops
- Assist with periodic compilation of data related to grant funding
- Represent PLC at legal networking and community outreach events
- Full time position with occasional evening and weekend work required
- Compensation dependent on experience; range of $70,000 to $86,000

Position Requirements:
- Active membership in the California State Bar or Bar Membership pending or eligibility to practice under State Bar Multijurisdictional Practice Program.
- Bilingual English/Spanish required
- 0-5 years experience
- Demonstrated commitment to working with the Latinx community
- Excellent oral/written communication skills
- Strong public speaking skills and ability to communicate with a variety of audiences, from community members to pro bono attorneys.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid CA Driver's license, insurance and good driving record; travel throughout Orange and neighboring counties may be necessary with your own transportation.
