Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, Inc., (SMRLS) is seeking to fill a Staff Attorney position in its Metro Region for an established Healthcare-Legal Partnership with M-Health Fairview-Bethesda Clinic. The partnership integrates free civil legal services into a health care delivery model. The attorney will handle a variety of poverty law matters and will be under the supervision of the Healthcare-Legal Partnership Lead Attorney, located at the SMRLS Metro Office.

Responsibilities:
The Healthcare-Legal Partnership Staff Attorney will: Provide legal assistance to eligible clients presenting with health-harming legal issues related to housing, domestic abuse, government benefits, immigration, and other legal problems affecting health; Provide legal advice and represent clients in contested court and administrative proceedings; Attend meetings with Bethesda Clinic's staff and will also provide training to the clinic's staff on identifying health-harming legal issues; Be the primary point of contact for M-Health/Fairview's Bethesda Clinic patients with SMRLS and will be available on-site at Bethesda Clinic in St. Paul a minimum of 50% of the time; Maintain a caseload in compliance with SMRLS' written practice standards and must comply with SMRLS' policies, practices, and guiding principles in furtherance of SMRLS' mission.

Community education, outreach, intake responsibilities, and active bar participation are also required activities. Ability to travel to court hearings and other required appearances in the SMLRS metro region is required. Computer competence is also necessary.

Qualifications:
Must be licensed to practice law in Minnesota or be a candidate for Bar admission. Non-academic experience working in low-income communities, or other activities that demonstrate an interest in working with low-income clients, will be given great weight. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with victims of domestic abuse and persons from different cultural backgrounds is essential.

The desired candidate will have excellent communication skills, the ability to work constructively with others in a team setting, and good judgment. Strong organizational capability, and the ability to work efficiently and independently are also required. Fluency in a second language, particularly Spanish or Somali, will be beneficial but is not required. Basic computer competence required.

Salary: The salary is $80,010+ DOE, pursuant to scale. Excellent benefits provided.
