Based in The City of Compton, Community Lawyers, Inc.'s Mission Is to Increase Legal Service Delivery in Underserved Communities. the Organization, Founded in 2005, Realizes the Challenges that Individuals Face in Finding Quality, Ethical and Affordable Attorneys. Community Lawyers, Inc. (cli) Provides Access to Critical Legal Resources Primarily to The Communities of Compton, South Los Angeles, and Southeast Los Angeles County. Cli Provides a Robust Array of Direct Legal Services, Educational, and Advocacy Programming to Assist in Reducing Barriers to Receiving Quality No Cost Legal Support Services. Core Programming Includes Monthly Pro Bono Legal Clinics, Specialized Workshops and Immigration Assistance, Legal Document Preparation Services, Direct Legal Representation, and Advocacy. All Services Ensure Language Accessibility with Staff, Volunteer Attorneys, and Other Volunteers with Multiple Language Fluencies Including English and Spanish.

About the Position:
Community Lawyers, Inc. (cli) Seeks a Dedicated and Compassionate Staff Attorney to Provide High-Quality Legal Services to Underserved and Low-Income Communities. the Staff Attorney Will Represent Clients in Family Law Legal Matters, Conduct Community Outreach and Education, and Collaborate with Staff, Volunteers, and Community Partners to Expand Access to Justice. This Role Requires Strong Legal Advocacy Skills, a Commitment to Public Interest Law, and The Ability to Work Effectively with Diverse Populations.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • J.D. from An Accredited Law School
  • Active Bar License in Good Standing (ca Preferred)
  • Immigration, Landlord Tenant Knowledge Also Preferred
  • Spanish Speaking Strongly Recommended to Apply
  • Dv Victims Trauma Informed Approach Preferred
  • Prior Work Experience in The Non-Profit Sector
  • Excellent Verbal, Written, and Communication Skills
  • Excellent Legal Research, Analysis, and Writing Skills
  • Ability to Think Strategically, Explore Creative Solutions to Problems, and Communicate Effectively with Colleagues, Clients, and Opposing Counsel

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a Case Docket for Their Area of Law
  • Lead, Supervise, and Mentor Supporting Legal Staff and Volunteers to Ensure Competent Legal Representation
  • Draft and Edit Submission of Pleadings, Motions, and Briefs
  • Develop and Implement Case Strategies that Align with Our Organization's Goals and Our Client's Objectives
  • Attend a Case Review Session with Other Staff and Interns
  • Record Case Updates in Case Management System
  • Report Case Concerns Questions and Immediate Updates to Supervising Staff Attorney
  • Keep up With Mcle Training and Requirements Through Practicing Law Institute Account
  • Conduct Pro Bono Consultations with Clients and Follow up Appointments
  • Represent Clients and Attend Hearings and Other Litigation Appointments as Scheduled on Behalf of Clients
  • Conduct Case Research and Analysis to Promote Effective Representation and Access to Justice for Clients
