Description:
Brief Description of the Organization: The Legal Aid Society is a trusted and well-respected private law firm that provides civil legal assistance to indigent residents of Orange County. We have a long-standing tradition of partnering with the private bar. We work closely with other local non-profits, and we collaborate statewide to provide access to justice.Program Description: If you are committed to justice and driven by compassion, come join the legal heroes at LAS, the private not-for-profit law firm defending rights daily! We are a client-centered organization committed to providing a full range of high-quality legal representation and advocacy primarily in areas of family, consumer, housing, and economic development law. Fighting for justice one case at a time.
Position Description: Are you a family law attorney who loves the legal work but is ready to step off the litigation treadmill? This is a rare opportunity to use your courtroom knowledge without the courtroom grind, with no personal caseload, no book of business, and genuine work-life balance built into the role. This is a people-first, mission-driven position. You'll spend your time making a real difference for clients who can't afford full legal representation by giving them the tools and knowledge to navigate the system themselves. Day to day, you'll provide brief legal consultations on family law, helping clients understand their options and next steps. You'll design and lead do-it-yourself legal clinics that teach people how to prepare and file their own pleadings. Over time, you'll also expand your toolkit to provide consultations on basic housing law and small claims matters. This is a hybrid role requiring 2 to 3 days in the field per week, with the rest remote. Just meaningful, skilled legal work on a human scale. If you went to law school to help people, this is that job.
Skills/Qualifications: We need someone with at least 2 years of hands-on family law litigation experience, not because you'll be litigating here, but because that depth of knowledge is exactly what our clients need you to draw from. You should be a strong communicator who genuinely enjoys explaining complex legal concepts to non-lawyers and finds meaning in access-to-justice work. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole preferred but not required.
Benefits: Compensation begins at $77,000 per year and based upon litigation experience, plus bonuses and salary adjustments. EXCELLENT benefits worth substantial additional financial value.
