Title: Special Victim's Unit Assistant Prosecutor - Criminal Division

Objective: Incumbent is responsible for investigating, preparing, and litigating felony criminal offenses against victims who are children, elderly or otherwise physically or mentally challenged, ie Special Victims.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Preparing for trials and litigations;
  • Performing investigations
  • Attending pretrial conferences, bench trials and jury trials
  • Attend and participate in training law enforcement officers in investigation and prosecution techniques in SVU cases;
  • Attend and participate in Multi Disciplinary Team Meetings;
  • Conduct training and instructions in SVU case investigations and prosecution as needed;
  • participating in the preparation and implementation of protocols, policies and procedures for related agencies who assist in the prosecution of Special Victims.

Non-essential Job Functions:
Performs related Essential and Non-Essential functions as needed.

Job Requirements:
Equipment: Incumbent operates the following equipment; computer, scanner, smart phone, calculator, computerized docketing system, fax machine, and copier.

Critical Skills/Expertise:
  • Five or more years or experience as an Assistant Prosecutor or equivalent private practice experience;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the legal system;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of researching skills;
  • Knowledge of the Rules of the Court, the Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Administrative Code, Rules of Criminal Procedure;
  • Knowledge of grand jury and criminal proceedings.

Job Standards: Juris Doctor Degree is required. Incumbent must pass the bar and be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio and be in good standing with the Supreme Court of Ohio.

Work Consists of Complex, Varied, Non-Standardized Tasks Requiring the Application of Numerous Laws, Rules, Regulations, and Procedures.

Responsibility
Incumbent Directs the Work Activities of The Investigators, Law Clerks, and Interns. Supervisor Provides Detailed and Technical Instructions when Needed, and Reviews Work During Division Meetings. Incumbent Makes Most Decisions Regarding Work Independently. Errors in Work Could Result in A Guilty Person Being Set Free or Litigation Against the County.

Personal Relationships
Incumbent Has Contact with Co-Workers, Employees in The Department, Public and Private Sector Employees, Institutional Residents, and The General Public. the Purpose of These Contacts Is to Provide Legal Representation, Conduct Investigations, and Prepare for And Conduct Trials.

Physical Effort and Work Environment
