Salary Range:
$92,002.00 To $98,002.00 Annually

General Responsibilities:
Supervising Attorneys are responsible for leading staff to ensure that Lakeshore attorneys represent clients in a holistic manner to achieve clients' goals through aggressive advocacy which include litigation, advice and brief service, and systemic advocacy. Supervising attorneys will work closely with their director to identify systemic legal problems and develop and implement impact litigation. In addition to overseeing attorneys and staff, supervising attorneys will provide direct services to clients. Supervising attorneys also will ensure that staff comply with funding requirements. Staff are required to treat clients, co-workers, and others with dignity and respect.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor
  • Admission to Michigan Bar (or ability to be admitted through reciprocity)
  • 5 years or more experience of practice required
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to public interest or pro bono work
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate
  • Ability to organize, plan, prioritize, meet deadlines, and work under pressure
  • Flexibility

General Task Areas
  • Supervise staff attorneys, law students and recent law graduates practicing pursuant to MCR 8.120, and support staff to ensure holistic, high quality legal representation is provided to clients.
  • Provide high quality legal assistance to clients in accordance with Lakeshore Legal Aid's Advocacy Manual and Rules of Professional Conduct.
  • Managing and addressing personnel issues as needed.
  • Monitor substantive legal work and provide consult and advice to staff attorneys.
  • Ensure staff development through mentoring and training.
  • Ensure staff compliance with funding requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and draft required funder reports.
  • Provide client services as needed and applicable to their assigned Department by maintaining a caseload and co-counselling with staff attorneys or providing advice and brief service to clients seeking access to Lakeshore's services.
  • Identify, develop, and implement advocacy strategies to address systemic legal problems.
  • Develop and maintain a productive work environment.
  • Develop a leadership role in legal services organizations, bar associations, and community groups.
  • Participate in client outreach with community organizations.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by the CAO, CEO or a CEO designee.
