Description:

Schallert PC is a woman-owned workers' compensation defense firm built for attorneys who want to do serious litigation work without the grind that usually comes with it. We're fully remote, we represent insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured employers across California, and we're hiring an experienced defense attorney to run a complex caseload, try cases, and help bring our associates along.

This is a senior seat. You'll own your calendar, set the strategy on your files, and be someone the rest of the team can come to with a hard question.

The work
You'll handle defense files from assignment through resolution. Day to day, that looks like:
  • Carrying a litigated caseload with a workload that's actually manageable — we set clear expectations rather than handing you an impossible book
  • Taking and defending depositions, and working through AME/QME issues
  • Appearing at WCAB hearings, MSCs, and trials
  • Building case strategy and explaining it to claims professionals in plain terms
  • Negotiating and closing files — C&Rs and stipulations that hold up
  • Handling lien disputes and the rest of the litigation lifecycle
  • Acting as a resource and informal mentor for our associate attorneys

What We're Looking For:
  • Active California Bar membership in good standing
  • 5+ years defending California workers' compensation matters
  • Genuine comfort carrying litigated files on your own — depositions, hearings, trial
  • Good judgment about when to push a file and when to resolve it
  • Clear, direct communication with clients and claims teams
  • You're at home in a paperless, tech-forward practice (EAMS, e-filing, the usual)
