Join our team as we help shape the future.The Hartford currently has an in-house remote opportunity for a Senior Staff Attorney to litigate cases throughout the New York City area. This position is an ideal fit for an Attorney with litigation experience in premises actions, motor-vehicle accidents, property damage claims and No-Fault claims who wishes to practice in a collegial firm with other experienced litigators. The Senior Staff Attorney will strive to deliver the best possible results in pending litigation. In this position, the attorney reports to the Staff Legal Managing Attorney and the Assistant Managing Attorney. Our selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to independently handle cases.
Responsibilities:
- Independently handle lawsuits involving premises actions, motor-vehicle accidents, property damage claims and No-Fault claims.
- Prepare pleadings, written discovery, reports, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies without supervision.
- Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at depositions, trials, judicial and administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions.
- Research, draft, file and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients.
- Conduct legal research and independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
- Analyze substantive and procedural legal and factual issues.
- Provide effective and timely communications, legal advice and other services to clients and claims customers on legal and factual issues in a technology driven environment.
- Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures.
- Prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.
- Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of professional expertise.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years of legal litigation experience.
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school and license to practice in New York State.
- Knowledge of New York Supreme and Civil courts.
- Member in good standing of New York State Bar.
- Federal admission in S.D.N.Y and E.D.N.Y is a plus.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are essential.
- Strong communication, computer and technological skills, and the ability to quickly leverage new software are required.
