About the role:
We are seeking a Senior Reinsurance Contracts Counsel to support multiline reinsurance business for the Americas, with focus on casualty reinsurance underwritten by our US and Bermuda offices. You will engage with underwriters to draft and review reinsurance contract wordings and advise on related matters.

In this role you will require strong analytical abilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills. We are seeking a candidate with a pragmatic and results-oriented attitude, who possesses the ability to work independently with a sense of personal responsibility and accountability, while also building cooperative relationships with our underwriting community.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Independently review and draft reinsurance contracts and related documents to align with applicable law, regulations and corporate requirements.
  • Maintain strong governance risk and control standards with respect to contract wordings and processes.
  • Support internal partners in contract negotiations, including discussions with external clients and brokers, as required.
  • Review commercial agreements including non-disclosure agreements, binding authority agreements and other ancillary documents.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert on reinsurance contracts and wordings topics providing recommendations to various corporate functions regarding contracts matters.
  • Support development of training materials and deliver trainings.
  • Assist line manager with overall business planning and workflow planning, especially to ensure times of peak workloads are covered adequately.
  • Support the improvement of contracts review processes, including use of technology.

Your profile
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in reinsurance as a lawyer/attorney, as contract/policy specialist or in a claims handling role.
  • University degree in law and further professional legal / insurance qualifications preferred.
  • Good understanding of Property & Casualty products and local re/insurance market required. Preference for Casualty wordings specialist.
  • Business acumen with the ability to effectively drive the business forward with a thoughtful, proactive, and practical approach. Confidence to change/ direct wording appetite as and when required.
  • Proficient in using technology effectively to carry out functional responsibilities. Interest in digitalisation and automation, first experiences in this field a plus.
  • Demonstrated capability to work efficiently and independently, learn quickly, prioritize and meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment while remaining analytical and detail-oriented.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues globally.
  • Excellent team player, who is willing to challenge constructively and share knowledge and experience.
  • Fluent in English, proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese considered a plus.
  • Proficient skills in MS Office suite.
