We are looking for a Sr. Product Counsel to join our Legal team. Reporting to the VP, Deputy General Counsel, you will play a critical role in developing, managing, and scaling DigitalOcean's global privacy and data protection program. You will ensure compliance with international, federal, and local regulations—including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, PIPEDA, and other applicable privacy laws—while working closely with teams across the company to embed data protection practices into our operations and culture.

What You'll Do:
  • Advise product, engineering, and business teams on a range of legal issues related to product development.
  • Design and implement strategies for compliance with global legal and regulatory requirements and respond to emerging legal challenges.
  • Collaborate closely with commercial counsel working on agreements with partners and customers.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including marketing, financial, security, and other functions in support of product release activities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.

What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:

  • Credentialed: JD or equivalent degree.
  • Expertise in product counseling: 7-10 years of attorney level experience, with a mix of in-house and law firm.
  • Strong legal acumen: Relevant experience in product counsel, privacy, AI, and intellectual property matters.
  • Preferred experience: Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state where the position is located.
  • Proven client management skills: Experience providing pragmatic advice to business teams on intellectual property issues, privacy matters, and other complex legal issues involving AI products.
  • Organizational strength: Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects under tight deadlines.
  • Cross-functional communication: Collaborative, with initiative and willingness to work cross functionally.

  • We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is $160,000 - $200,000 based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
