What's the role?
We are growing our Patent Team and looking to add a Sr Patent Attorney II/III to join our Legal Department! As a Patent Attorney, you will collaborate closely with other patent professionals, i.e., attorneys, agents, specialists, and work with our inventors, product owners and managers to define, qualify and support HERE patent portfolio. HERE Technologies has significantly increased the size of our patent portfolio, and we are continuing to expand quickly. You will be an integral part of our growth. You will also work with different regions to align our patent protection in all locations worldwide where HERE is active. We are also starting a patent monetization program to add more value to the company. You can be involved with this too as the program matures.

Your primary responsibilities will be to:
  • Set, manage, and deliver global patent and related intellectual property strategies and support for assigned portfolio focused on key technologies related to HERE's businesses.
  • Offer counsel and advice to actively manage global patent-related risks for assigned portfolio.
  • Work with inventors to identify inventions and file patent applications globally.
  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications before various patent offices worldwide, and work with outside counsel to do the same.
  • Conduct inventor and examiner interviews.
  • Prepare patent claims aligned with products.
  • Support patent related business projects.
  • Work with inventors to develop patentable subject matter in strategic technology areas identified by the business.
  • Significantly contribute to HERE's monetization program: Analyze HERE's patent portfolio for potential licensing opportunities, chart HERE patents against third party products, engage with third parties to raise revenue.
  • Defend HERE when we are sued for patent infringement.

In addition, you will be working with the rest of the Patent team on projects to engage and expand HERE's inventor base and proactively grow our patent portfolio to reflect our current and future businesses.

Who are you?
  • You are a curious, organized, fast learner with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in patent law/operations counseling internal/external clients on intellectual property issues in a law firm or a corporate setting (experience as a Patent Agent may be considered.)
  • You are Qualified/Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the European Patent Office, or any other patent office.
  • You hold a degree of Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school and can produce documentation such as a Certificate of Admission/Good Standing to the Roll of Attorneys Licensed to Practice Law in your state upon request.
  • You hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited undergraduate institution.

Nice to Have:
  • You hold a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science Engineering, or any related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in patent monetization programs.
  • Patent litigation experience.
  • You hold a certificate or graduate degree in intellectual property or patent law.
  • Patent management experience in a high tech environment/supporting a technical product preferred.

The expected base salary range for this position is $170,000 to $205,000 per year. Actual compensation will be based on factors such as skills and experience.

This position is also eligible for a target annual performance bonus, which is subject to company and individual performance.
