The Role:
Block is seeking Senior Litigation Counsel to join a team that's responsible for the company's most complex, high-profile litigation and regulatory enforcement matters. This role is ideal for a seasoned litigator who combines sharp strategic judgment with a pragmatic, business-oriented approach, and who thrives in a fast-moving yet highly collaborative environment.

You will play a key role in shaping litigation and enforcement strategy across a diverse portfolio of matters impacting Block's ecosystem of products and services.

You Will:
  • Lead strategy for significant litigation and regulatory enforcement matters from pre-litigation through resolution
  • Advise senior leadership on legal risk, enforcement trends, and business impact, particularly in areas affecting fintech, payments, and data use
  • Manage and partner closely with outside counsel to drive high-quality, efficient outcomes
  • Personally engage on critical aspects of matters, including legal strategy, discovery, and key filings
  • Handle complex disputes across areas such as class actions, commercial litigation, privacy, and consumer protection
  • Work exceptionally closely with other Counsel teams—including Policy, Product, Regulatory, and Corporate—to align on risk and strategy
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as Engineering, Compliance, and Risk to proactively identify and mitigate issues, consistent with business priorities

You Have:
  • J.D. and active bar membership
  • 10+ years of litigation experience at a leading law firm, government agency, or in-house
  • experience leading complex litigation and/or regulatory enforcement matters; bonus for deep securities litigation experience
  • Expertise in areas such as class actions, commercial disputes, privacy, and/or financial regulatory enforcement issues
  • Experience in litigation for a public company, including financial reporting, audit, and governance obligations
  • Strong judgment and the ability to translate legal risk into practical business guidance
  • Exceptional collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively across legal disciplines and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • AI-first perspective, with interest in building and leveraging AI-driven tools for litigation management, discovery, and related workflows.
