Description:
Job Purpose:Join A Global Leader in The Logistics Industry's Legal Department and take a leading role in shaping regulatory strategy and compliance across our operations in the United States. This position provides comprehensive legal support to DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding (including Hillebrand Gori), DHL Supply Chain, DHL E-Commerce Solutions, and Post & Parcel Germany. The focus is on regulatory affairs, customs law, and international trade compliance involving the United States.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Legal Advisory: Advise senior leaders across business units on United States trade laws, customs regulations, and government contracting requirements.
- Regulatory Leadership: Lead internal investigations, regulatory strategy, and compliance initiatives across all business units with a United States nexus.
- Agency Representation: Represent A Global Leader in The Logistics Industry before United States government agencies including Customs and Border Protection, Transportation Security Administration, Office of Foreign Assets Control, Department of Transportation, and others.
- Global Collaboration: Drive customs compliance policy and contribute to global customs governance through the A Global Leader in The Logistics Industry Group Customs Committee.
- External Counsel Management: Select and manage outside legal counsel for major investigations and regulatory matters.
- Compliance Oversight: Monitor customs teams, identify risks, and implement corrective action plans.
- Policy Development: Support the implementation and evolution of the A Global Leader in The Logistics Industry Group Customs Compliance Manual and related guidance.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Legal Expertise: Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school with at least 10 years of legal experience, including significant exposure to United States customs and import law.
- Industry Experience: Background in law firms advising clients in trade or transportation; in-house legal experience in logistics or supply chain preferred.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of United States Customs and Border Protection regulations; familiarity with Transportation Security Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and other regulatory bodies.
- Investigative Skills: Experience managing or contributing to internal investigations and compliance metrics.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Strong ability to advise and influence senior executives and cross-functional teams.
- Global Perspective: Willingness to engage with international teams and learn trade laws in key markets such as Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.
