The Role:
We're looking for a Senior Product Counsel who will serve as a strategic partner to our Product, Engineering, AI/ML, Design and Trust and Safety teams, providing legal guidance throughout the entire product development lifecycle—from early beta to launch and beyond. This attorney will act as a key Legal Product advisor, helping ensure that our products are innovative, responsible, and legally sound.

This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned legal professional with deep experience in technology, data protection, online safety, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate thrives in a high-growth, values-driven environment and is energized by the challenge of building trustworthy, compliant, and impactful member experiences.

What You'll Do:
  • Act as the one of two primary legal advisors to product and engineering teams, providing guidance from initial design through launch and iteration.
  • Advise teams on key emerging areas for our core product, with a particular focus on generative AI, online safety, content acquisition, IP/copyright, open source, and privacy issues.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders across Legal, Privacy, AI/ML, Compliance, and InfoSec to deliver clear, actionable legal advice that supports innovation while managing risk, increase speed and efficiency, and advance the long-term goals of Bumble.
  • Implement scalable legal processes, automation, and AI-enabled solutions that improve efficiency, reduce cycle times, and help deliver high-quality guidance to product and engineering teams with greater speed and consistency.
  • Ensure products comply with data protection and privacy laws, including GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, online safety laws and related U.S. and international frameworks.
  • Serve as a legal project manager, coordinating legal input across teams (e.g., privacy, commercial, compliance) to deliver timely, integrated feedback to product teams.
  • Promote and implement privacy-by-design, safety by design, transparency, and member-first principles into new and existing products.
  • Partner closely with product, policy, trust & safety, and engineering teams to support responsible product development and carry out appropriate risk assessments.
  • Help with Trust and Safety escalation and transparency reports
  • Create playbooks, checklists, and scalable legal tools to support agile product development and reduce repetitive requests.
  • Build trusted relationships with key stakeholders and communicate complex legal concepts with clarity and confidence.

About You:
  • J.D. degree and active bar membership in good standing in the UK/EU
  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience, including in-house at a U.S.-based global tech company or top-tier law firm advising high-growth technology businesses.
  • Proven expertise advising product teams in areas such as privacy law, platform liability, and consumer protection.
  • Strong working knowledge of global privacy and data protection laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, UK DPA).
  • Strong working knowledge of online safety laws, (e.g., age verification laws, Digital Services Act and Online Safety Act).
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating across multiple legal disciplines to ensure end-to-end coverage of regulatory and compliance risks.
  • A product mindset with an ability to embed legal solutions into design processes, UX, and system architecture.
  • Track record of influencing without authority, managing complex cross-functional projects, and supporting innovation at scale.
  • Strong process orientation and an eye for efficiency—you're always thinking about how to make things clearer, faster, and easier.
  • A commitment to Bumble's mission and values, and a passion for building technologies that support healthy online experiences.
  • Must be based in Austin or New York
