Summary:
This role is responsible for providing legal advice, drafting legal documents, resolving legal disputes, and managing the compliance system. Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with the business teams to ensure that all legal matters are handled in a timely, efficient, and appropriate manner. This individual will report to the Head of Legal/Compliance of the North America Region.

Responsibilities:
  • Advise and counsel on a variety of legal and compliance topics
  • Provide legal and compliance training to the entire organization
  • Review company policies and practices on a regular basis to ensure that all are in compliance
  • Provide oversight, direction, and maintenance of the compliance program
  • Conduct risk assessments and general reports for compliance meetings
  • Prepare for the possibility of audits and investigations by developing strategies, maintaining records, and designing procedures
  • Preparing, reviewing and negotiating company contracts and other legal documents
  • Generate accurate work product quickly as requested
  • Manage litigations and legal claims of the company
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Regular and reliable on-site attendance is required

Qualifications:
  • Law degree from an accredited law school or equivalent, relevant experience
  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan preferred but not required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of corporate law and procedures, with experience in corporate compliance, labor and employment matters, and safety & environmental issues
  • Demonstrates excellent business and legal judgment, with a strong ability to assess risk and set priorities based on risk evaluation and business needs
  • Effectively organizes and manages an independent caseload with multiple, concurrent priorities.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, research, writing, and negotiation skills
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity

Experience:
  • At least 5+ years of Legal experience
  • Experience in a law firm or with a global in-house legal team is preferred
