Job Purpose:
The Senior Legal Counsel serves as a trusted legal advisor to business leaders and functions across multiple countries and jurisdictions in the Caribbean Region. This role provides practical, business-oriented legal support on a broad range of commercial, corporate, regulatory, employment, compliance, governance, dispute resolution, and strategic business matters. The successful candidate will partner closely with senior management and cross-functional stakeholders to identify legal risks, develop practical solutions, and support business growth while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and company policies.

The role requires a highly adaptable attorney capable of managing diverse legal matters in a fast-paced international environment and coordinating with external counsel and regional legal teams worldwide.

Your Tasks:
Commercial and Business Transactions:
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a wide variety of commercial agreements, including: customer agreements, vendor and procurement contracts, service agreements, confidentiality agreements, and other operational matters to protect DHL's legal and business interests.
  • Provide practical legal guidance to support business objectives while appropriately managing risk.
  • Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and negotiation guidelines.

Regulatory and Compliance

  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the company's operations globally.
  • Provide guidance on applicable laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions in the Caribbean Region.
  • Partner with Compliance, Internal Audit, HR, Procurement, Finance, and other functions to support company-wide compliance initiatives.
  • Assist with risk assessments, investigations, and remediation efforts.

Employment and Human Resources Support

  • Advise HR and management on employment-related issues, including: Employee relations, Workplace investigations, Performance management, Restrictive covenants and confidentiality obligations.
  • Manage employment litigation.

Real Estate
Draft and negotiate real estate documents, such as leases, amendments, license agreements, termination agreements, estoppels, non-disturbance agreements, non-disclosure agreements, consents and notices

Corporate Matters:
Work closely with the corporate secretary in the preparation and revision of various corporate documents.

Dispute Resolution and Risk Management
  • Manage pre-litigation disputes and claims.
  • Oversee litigation and other contentious matters through external counsel.
  • Develop strategies to minimize legal exposure and resolve disputes efficiently.

Training and Legal Operations

  • Deliver legal and compliance training to business teams.
  • Advise business on legal trends and developing areas of law.
  • Support legal operations initiatives designed to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
  • Promote the use of technology and process improvements within the legal function.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong relationships with business leaders across the Caribbean Region and functions.
  • Act as a strategic advisor on legal and business risks.
  • Effectively communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences.
  • Collaborate with regional and global legal teams to ensure alignment and consistency.
  • Perform other duties in support of the Legal Department, as assigned.

Your Profile:
Education:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree.
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.

Experience:
  • 7+ years of legal experience, including a combination of law firm and/or in-house experience.
  • Significant experience supporting international business operations.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Broad exposure to multiple legal disciplines, including commercial, corporate, compliance, employment, and dispute resolution matters.
  • Experience in the logistics industry, a plus.
  • Experience managing external counsel is a must

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage a diverse and high-volume workload.
  • Experience working across multiple jurisdictions, cultures, and time zones.
  • Experience in international employment law.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, global environment.
  • Spanish language fluency required.
  • French language fluency, a plus.
  • Ability to work well as member of a closely-knit, diverse, and well-respected legal team defending and representing DHL's interests.
  • Strong attention to detail.
