A Consumer Healthcare Products Company is recruiting for a business lawyer to serve as the primary in-house legal support Johnson & Johnson Innovation, JLABS. This is a global position and will be located at any of the Johnson & Johnson Innovation locations (Beerse, Boston, London, New Brunswick, San Francisco or, Shanghai)

The position is for an attorney to support Johnson & Johnson Innovation, JLABS, as part of the wider Global External Innovation and Business Development legal team. JLABS is a global life science network for innovation, providing startups with access to capital-efficient lab space and resources, including expertise, community, industry connections and entrepreneurial programs. The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for advising the global JLABS team on a wide variety of commercial agreements and transactions with external companies and institutions focused on early-stage research and development to implement the vision of the JLABS leadership team. Their responsibilities will include managing relationships with external collaborators, suppliers, and outside counsel, drafting agreements to support and implement the JLABS model as well as advising on legislation relevant to the model, including crowd sourcing contests called Quick Fire Challenges. They may also work from time to time on external collaborations and projects initiated by the wider Global External Innovation or JBD businesses. They will work closely with and be a trusted advisor to the Global Head of JLABS (based in South San Francisco) and her global leadership team and will need to participate in leadership meetings to provide legal support.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be experienced commercial lawyers with demonstrated people skills, and a track record of leading a wide variety of complex strategic transactions.
  • A law degree and license to practice as a lawyer in a J&J Innovation location. Experience of working on cross border transactions or in multiple jurisdictions would be a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years' legal experience at a top national or international law firm or in-house legal department of national or international reputation is required. Experience working for a Life Sciences company or advising clients in a Life sciences industry is preferred.
  • The ability to provide outstanding legal services to business partners, including senior executives, in a fast-paced, highly matrixed environment and to effectively partner across legal and other functional areas, such as privacy, healthcare compliance and regulatory affairs.
  • The ability to support several different transactions, contracts or matters at the same time.
  • Experience of working on strategic transactions, and/or with startup companies, incubators or accelerators in the life science industry is preferred.
  • Experience advising on contest rules and social media would also be a plus.
