What this job involves
The Senior Compliance Counsel plays an important role in promoting A World Leader in Real Estate Services Company's global corporate compliance program, including compliance with international trade requirements and regulations. The role will report directly to the Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer and work closely with Regional Ethics & Compliance Heads who have oversight of A World Leader in Real Estate Services Company's Financial Crime and Anti-Bribery & Corruption programs. This role is part of the Ethics and Compliance Center of Excellence within A World Leader in Real Estate Services Company's Global Legal function.

Your priority will be to partner across the Global E&C team to strengthen and maintain a robust, global corporate compliance program. You will be the primary adviser and subject matter expert on international trade sanctions and import / export matters impacting A World Leader in Real Estate Services Company's operations and service provision globally; supporting the business to achieve sustainable growth and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with Regional E&C Heads and the global E&C team to design, enhance and maintain A World Leader in Real Estate Services Company's corporate compliance program, focusing in particular on Financial Crime and Anti-bribery & Corruption;
  • Primary global advisory SME for international trade sanctions and export controls;
  • Manage and enhance a fit for purpose global compliance program for trade sanctions and export controls risk; with a particular focus on managing and coordinating enterprise-wide activities related to international trade sanction restrictions, and the export controls, imports and customs classifications of A World Leader in Real Estate Services Company and third-party hardware, software, technology, and services (collectively, “assets”)
  • Oversee the Global Sanctions Screening team within A World Leader in Real Estate Services Company Business Services;
  • Design and deliver policies, procedures, controls, training and guidance materials, technology assets, templates & guardrails to support the objectives of the Global Ethics & Compliance team;
  • Provide management information, reporting and analysis of corporate compliance matters to relevant stakeholders and committees within A World Leader in Real Estate Services Company's enterprise risk management framework to facilitate effective oversight for key compliance risk areas;
  • Collaborate with the Ethics & Compliance team and Legal function to effectively meet business needs and manage compliance risk.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests from regulators.
  • Review, address, and raise significant issues and activities to the Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer and relevant senior stakeholders.
  • Conduct reviews of processes, procedures and training programs to ensure policy requirements are fit for purpose and have been implemented consistently, with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Act as Global SME together with Regional Heads to support horizon scanning activities relating to legal and regulatory developments impacting A World Leader in Real Estate Services Company's corporate compliance program;
  • Engender a strong, values-driven ethical culture.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience and demonstrated capability managing corporate compliance and financial crime risk, including advising companies on the application of trade sanctions / export controls laws worldwide
  • Law / Batchelors degree
  • Experience in designing and implementing corporate compliance frameworks - policies, procedures and controls
  • Leader in advising and managing on all financial crime and anti-corruption matters (International trade sanctions and export controls, AML, ABAC, fraud detection & prevention and market abuse) for multinational companies.
  • Self-starting and entrepreneurial with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.

  • Extensive experience working collaboratively with global teams and a wide range of stakeholders, including relationship management with senior leaders

The position is based at our Chicago, IL headquarters and reports directly to the Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer.
