Description:
Leadership & Path to OwnershipLutz & Associates, P.S. is seeking an experienced Washington family-law attorney for a senior position based in our Kent office.
This is not simply an associate-attorney opening.
We are looking for an accomplished family-law attorney who wants to practice at a high level, participate meaningfully in firm leadership, and pursue a genuine path to equity ownership.
The attorney who joins us will initially serve as a senior attorney handling Washington family-law matters and working with our attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and management team. As the relationship develops, we expect this attorney to assume increasing leadership and management responsibility within the firm.
Our intention is genuine: for the right attorney, sustained successful performance is intended to lead to an offer of equity ownership and a significant long-term role in the leadership and future succession of Lutz & Associates.
Ownership is not immediate or automatic. Any future offer of equity would depend on demonstrated legal ability, reliability, productivity, leadership, business judgment, contribution to the firm, and mutual confidence that an ownership relationship is right for both the attorney and Lutz & Associates.
What we are looking for:
We are particularly interested in an attorney who:
- Has substantial Washington family-law experience.
- Is licensed and in good standing with the Washington State Bar.
- Can independently manage sophisticated dissolution, parenting-plan, child-support, maintenance, property-division, and enforcement matters.
- Is comfortable appearing in court and handling contested proceedings.
- Exercises sound professional judgment and provides excellent client service.
- Is organized, dependable, and follows matters through to completion.
- Can effectively work with and supervise paralegals and legal assistants.
- Is interested in mentoring attorneys and participating in firm leadership.
- Understands that a successful law practice requires both excellent legal work and sound business judgment.
- Is looking for a long-term professional home and wants to help build the firm over time.
The Role:
The senior attorney will manage an active family-law caseload while becoming familiar with the firm's people, systems, procedures, and approach to practicing law.
As the relationship develops, the attorney is expected to take on increasing responsibility for mentoring attorneys, supervising staff, addressing case-management and quality-control issues, assisting with recruiting and hiring, improving firm systems, and participating in selected management decisions.
This is an in-person leadership position based in our Kent office. Limited flexibility may be available after the attorney is established in the role. Regular physical presence in Kent is important because we are seeking someone who can become a visible and dependable leader for the attorneys and staff working there.
Path to Ownership
This is a genuine path-to-ownership opportunity, but equity is not immediate or automatic.
The attorney will first join Lutz & Associates in a senior role so that both the attorney and the firm have sufficient time to determine whether a long-term business relationship makes sense.
For the right attorney, sustained successful performance is intended to lead to an offer of equity ownership, subject to mutual agreement on the terms.
There is no automatic transfer of ownership after a particular period of employment. We expect an ownership decision to occur only after we have worked together long enough to evaluate the relationship carefully and determine that becoming business partners makes sense.
Over time, the ownership opportunity could develop into a substantial leadership role and participation in the future succession of Lutz & Associates.
