General Description:
The Senior ERISA attorney role will provide leadership of the delivery of technical regulatory and compliance services to USI Consulting Group's Practice Areas and clients in matters relating to retirement plans and certain employee benefit plans (DB, DC, H&W). Together with other USICG consultants and members of the Legal Team, the Senior ERISA attorney position will provide comprehensive retirement consulting related to both qualified and nonqualified plans sponsored by entities in the private and public sector, in addition to not-for-profit entities. This role will function as both an individual contributor in the most complex matters for clients and prospects, as well as a leader and manager of other professionals within the Legal Team.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide plan design advice and recommendations.
  • Review plan documents, amendments, SPDs, and other communications.
  • Review governmental filings and corrections.
  • Advise on mergers and acquisitions.
  • Advise on nondiscrimination testing.
  • Perform fiduciary training for clients and advise on plan governance procedures.
  • Contribute to USICG's business development and operate as a resource to the Sales Team.
  • Facilitate communication and consistency of Practice Areas processes and procedures to avoid errors and limit E&O exposure.
  • Review Legal Team staff member work product, including the work of other ERISA Attorneys
  • Review and analyze current developments of legal and technical significance and undertake required legal research.
  • Lead the design and delivery of regular written updates and training sessions on legislative and regulatory developments to USICG consultants.
  • Prepare client communications, and other marketing and business focused materials.
  • Review and prepare service agreements and contracts. Take ownership of model service agreements and contracts.
  • Manage and develop Legal Team members.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Law degree and be an active member in good standing of a state bar, ERISA Attorney required.
  • Minimum of 15 years experience as an ERISA attorney with legal research, document review, navigation of complex retirement plan issues with internal audiences and clients, and extensive knowledge of requirements and regulations of DOL, IRS, FINRA and SEC, etc. as applicable to retirement programs.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and convey information to clients and prospects and represent the company in a professional manner in a leadership role[BH1.1].
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to establish priorities and meet tight deadlines, as well as strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Ability to creatively and proactively problem-solve, adhering to all regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to oversee the work of other legal staff and serve as manager and mentor for their performance and development.
  • Ability to interface effectively with Practice Leaders, Sales Leaders, and senior leadership of USICG and the USI Corporate Legal team.
  • Ability to stay organized and focused in a busy environment.
  • Effective communication skills with clients and co-workers, both verbal and written.
