Role Summary:
As Senior Energy & Water Counsel, you will play an integral role in supporting the delivery of Rowan's 1.5GW+ and rapidly growing portfolio of data center projects. In this role, you will work with the Rowan business and leading utility and energy partners to energize critical projects, achieve Rowan's and its customers' sustainability objectives, and help deliver innovative renewables and power acceleration projects.
The successful candidate will have substantial transactional experience with utility service and interconnection agreements and other energy-related agreements for large-scale, energy-intensive projects, including supply agreements, power purchase agreements and tolling agreements. The role requires a deep knowledge of utility tariff, policies and regulatory structures. Experience supporting the development and operation of generation and storage facilities is a plus. The role will also support water-related infrastructure and supply agreements. To be successful, a candidate needs to be an exceptional attorney with good commercial judgment.
Travel: Ability to travel up to 10% to meet with utilities, developers and customers and for company gatherings
Location: Denver, CO (hybrid in-office role) strongly preferred (remote may be considered for exceptional candidates)
Compensation: $190 - $230 (Offers Bonus)
Essential Responsibilities:
- Structure, draft and negotiate energy infrastructure and supply agreements, including renewable PPAs and other innovative project structures
- Structure, draft and negotiate agreements related to water infrastructure, supply, treatment, and sustainability
- Provide counsel on energy, water and sustainability public policy and regulatory issues.
- Support the drafting and negotiation of energy-related matters for customer lease and development agreements
- Communicate complex legal matters to business teams and senior management
Education, Skills, and Experience
- JD from an accredited U.S. law school
- 10+ years of law firm or in-house experience with an energy company or large corporate user, hyperscale data center experience is a plus
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage outside counsel
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; comfortable with ambiguity; and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and highly cross-functional environment
