Chapman Law Group, a growing multi-state health care law firm, is looking to add an experienced and passionate Employment Law Attorney with significant experience in representing employers and a portable book of business to join our team. As part of our strategic growth, we are expanding our practice to include employment law services.

This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial employment attorney to build and lead a new practice area within a collaborative, high-performance environment that values autonomy, mentorship, and business development.

This role offers the chance to spearhead the firm's employment law practice, work closely with firm leadership, and become a foundational member of a growing service line. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and hands-on litigator who enjoys client counseling and practice development.

Key Responsibilities:
Practice Leadership & Business Development
  • Lead the development and execution of the employment law practice's business plan
  • Drive client development through marketing, networking, and cross-selling to existing firm clients
  • Build long-term client relationships and expand the firm's employment law footprint

Client Counseling & Representation
Advise and represent employers on a wide range of federal and Michigan employment law issues, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour compliance (FLSA and Michigan law), FMLA/ADA leave issues, and workplace safety

Litigation & Dispute Resolution
  • Manage all aspects of employment litigation and administrative proceedings, including risk assessment, strategy development, discovery, motion practice, hearings, and trials
  • Represent clients before agencies such as the EEOC and DOL, as well as in state and federal courts

Proactive Compliance & Counseling
  • Draft and review employment agreements, severance agreements, policies, and employee handbooks
  • Counsel clients on best practices for hiring, discipline, performance management, and terminations to minimize risk

Mentorship & Collaboration
  • Mentor and potentially supervise junior attorneys and staff as the practice grows
  • Collaborate with partners and other practice groups to deliver integrated legal solutions

Qualifications:
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active Michigan Bar license (or eligibility for admission)
  • Minimum of 10+ years of employment law experience in private practice.
  • Established, portable book of business required (details discussed during the interview process)
  • Strong litigation and trial experience in employment matters preferred
  • Deep knowledge of federal and Michigan employment laws (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, etc.)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong business judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative firm culture
