Description:

What you'll do
  • We are looking for an experienced product lawyer to own the legal and regulatory thesis for Docusign's regulated verticals, and to be the subject matter expert the rest of Product, Engineering, and Product legal draws on when a vertical regulation is the deciding issue on a launch.
  • Real Estate, Health and Life Sciences, and Financial Services are the places where compliance is not a layer applied to a finished product. It is the reason a regulated customer can use Intelligent Agreement Management for records they have to defend to a regulator. That means someone has to decide, before the roadmap is set, what a regulator will accept as a defensible agreement record in each of these markets, and turn that into requirements engineering can build against.
  • You will be that person. You will also be the depth the rest of the product counsel team relies on: they own their launches, you own the vertical regulatory expertise that makes their calls right. This is an individual contributor role with real ownership and real influence over what gets built.
  • This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the
  • Senior Director & Deputy General Counsel - Product Engineering, IP and Partner.

Responsibility
  • Own the verticals thesis and requirements
  • Define what regulatory defensibility means for the agreement record in Real Estate, Health and Life Sciences, and Financial Services, and translate it into product and engineering requirements at design and roadmap stage rather than launch review, including electronic signature validity, record keeping and retention, in-product disclosures, and the integrity and provenance of the record itself
  • Be the subject matter expert for Product legal and own the vertical regulatory depth behind them
  • Build the reusable positions, answer library, and interpretation guidance on the questions that recur (21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA, GLBA, SEC and FINRA recordkeeping, PCI DSS, NACHA), partner directly on the launches where a vertical regulation drives the outcome, and keep the team current as those regimes move
  • Keep commitments and capability aligned and assess whether the compliance commitments Docusign makes are actually deliverable in the product as built, define compensating controls where they are not, and maintain the inventory of commitments measured against real capability
  • Partner with commercial legal, privacy, and Al governance on commitments raised in customer deals, and run a light intake so routine compliance questions route themselves rather than queueing behind you
