About the role:
We are seeking a versatile and proactive Senior Counsel North America to join Haleon's legal team, in a broad role supporting a wide range of matters across the North American business. Haleon is a leader in the development, manufacturing and marketing of oral health, VMS, and over-the-counter (OTC) healthcare products. This position will provide legal counsel on a variety of cross-category matters supporting the NA business including privacy, digital & tech, sales & trade, contracting, governmental affairs, and EHS/sustainability. The ideal candidate will be practical, collaborative, and comfortable taking decisions and advising cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
The Senior Counsel will report to, and work closely with, the Head of US Legal, and will have substantial interaction with key leaders throughout the North American and global Haleon business. The Senior Counsel will also partner with colleagues throughout Haleon's Group Legal department to bring broad expertise and support as required to help Haleon accomplish its business objectives. This role provides significant opportunities for career development both within the Haleon NA legal team and throughout the broader Haleon Legal department.
This is a full-time, hybrid position requiring three days per week in the office, reporting to Haleon's Warren, NJ location. Periodic travel to other offices may be required on a limited basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary legal counsel to the NA Chief Marketing Officer and US Head of Sales.
- Support privacy and data protection matters across the NA business, including in relation to new products, marketing programs, consumer engagement activities, digital health solutions, cookie use, artificial intelligence tools and adtech or martech activities where applicable.
- Monitor developments in privacy, data protection, and digital regulation and translate those developments into actionable advice for the NA business.
- Deliver training and practical guidance to business stakeholders to build awareness and embed compliant ways of working.
- Provide strategic and practical legal support to the Sales, Customer Strategy, Revenue Growth Management, and Trade teams on commercial programs, customer relationships, product pricing and promotional activities, trade spend, and channel strategy.
- Advise on antitrust, competition, Robinson-Patman, contract, and commercial risk considerations in connection with customer negotiations, retailer and distributor arrangements, e-commerce initiatives, trade promotions, rebates, discounts, incentives, disputes, and sales governance processes.
- Advise on a broad range of commercial agreements in support of the North America business, including vendor, services, technology, marketing, digital, procurement, and other operational contracts.
- Support activities related to sustainability, EPR, and EHS/environmental initiatives, by advising on claims, campaigns, partnerships, and related governance matters in a practical, risk-based, and business-focused manner.
Basic Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications, skills and attributes:
- Strong academic background, Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree
- 5+ years legal experience in one or more of the following substantive areas: Privacy, Litigation, Advertising/Marketing, Regulatory, Corporate Transactions, Consumer Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals and/or Consumer Packaged Goods (science background helpful but not required)
- Must be licensed to practice as an attorney in the US
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new legal concepts quickly, proactively identify issues, and succeed in developing solutions in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills, including careful listening to facilitate understanding of business needs, and the ability to translate complex legal considerations into practical business advice
- Track record of accountability and sound judgment, including ability and willingness to take ownership of projects, prioritize and resolve issues, and obtain business results
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills
- Detail-oriented yet pragmatic approach to problem-solving
- High energy and motivation to learn new areas, stay current with relevant legal developments, influence leadership, and contribute to the success of the business and Group Legal.
Preferred Skills:
In house experience in consumer health/OTC, pharmaceuticals, CPG, or FMCH.
Compensation: The salary range for this role is $160,876 - $221,204 plus an 18% on-target bonus.
Location: This role is based in based in Warren, NJ, and follows a hybrid model, requiring a minimum in-office presence of 3 days per week.
