Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Senior Counsel for a role within our Advertising & Marketing Legal Team, a commercial legal function within the wider monetization legal group that supports TikTok's ad revenue generating business. The team partners closely with the sales, marketing and ad policy teams and other cross functional and legal teams to structure and negotiate deals, advise on ad policies, suggest mitigations that reduce risk and unlock commercial opportunities, and deliver breakthrough advertising value without compromising trust.

Our team is located across five main geographical regions supporting our local, regional and global sales, marketing and ad policy teams. This role will focus on supporting the team lead with priority projects to enable business growth and to create global alignment and streamline processes across the team to find efficiencies and to optimize the value delivered by the team at a global level. This role is new to the team and offers the successful candidate the chance to build the role. It requires someone who is comfortable working with uncertainty, can adjust quickly as priorities change, and enjoys the challenge of working in a truly global, fast-paced organisation that has extremely ambitious growth targets.

Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Commercial and Regulatory Advice
  • Collaborating effectively with global, regional and local cross functional teams to provide legal input on everything from strategy to advertising client queries.
  • Advising on commercial aspects of creator enablement programs, managing partner/creator/brand ecosystem, handling legal escalations, and assessing new features to mitigate risk.
  • Identifying proactive and innovative ways of communicating regulatory and industry changes to business stakeholders, to drive informed decisions that ignite growth and bring bold ideas to life sustainably.
  • Transposing local advice into clear risk ratings and mitigation strategies for the business. Proactively instructing and managing outside counsel reviews across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements supporting multiple stakeholders across TikTok, including for media sales, incentives, brand partnerships and B2B marketing events.

Global Project Delivery
Driving execution of global legal and regulatory projects by partnering with regional legal leads to develop aligned positions, manage jurisdictional divergence and support consistent business decision-making across markets.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Strong experience with in-house in technology, corporate, or highly matrixed global legal organisations
  • Strong grasp of the regulatory considerations affecting platforms, advertisers and creators, particularly in relation to data privacy, consumer protection and AI regulations.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with a bias for collaboration. Experience working closely with sales and marketing teams of various levels of sophistication that are focused on quarterly targets.
  • International outlook, with experience advising across multiple jurisdictions and engaging diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to spot patterns and look ahead, as well as the discipline to track multiple workstreams and deliver high-quality outputs on schedule. We are looking for someone who embraces technology and AI tools and seeks to leverage AI tools in the most impactful way.
  • Experience managing outside counsel to ensure advice is pragmatic, commercially grounded and cost-effective.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Interest in media, entertainment, digital advertising, adtech or digital content sectors, ideally with platforms, agencies or rights holders
  • Experience supporting operational, organisational, or cross-functional process initiatives in fast-paced businesses is preferred

Job Information:

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $174000 - $313200 annually.​

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.​
