Position Summary:
The Senior Counsel, Litigation manages the organization's litigation portfolio, provides strategic legal advice on disputes, and minimizes legal risk across a multi-state healthcare enterprise. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the role serves as the primary legal advisor for litigation and pre-litigation matters and partners with operational and executive leaders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as lead attorney for litigation matters.
- Develop litigation strategy with executive leadership.
- Evaluate claims and recommend resolution strategies.
- Manage mediations, arbitrations, and settlements.
- Oversee employment, commercial, liability, regulatory, and class action matters.
- Select and supervise outside counsel.
- Monitor litigation budgets and legal spending.
- Advise leaders on dispute resolution and legal risk.
- Prepare litigation reports for leadership and the Board.
- Monitor legal developments affecting healthcare providers.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school required.
Experience:
- 10 years of litigation experience in a law firm or sophisticated in-house legal department required.
- 5 years of equivalent experience in healthcare.
- Significant experience managing complex civil litigation required.
Licenses and Certifications:
Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Behavioral Health experience
- Nonprofit organization experience
- Employment litigation experience
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
Work is performed in an office, clinical, residential, and/or community-based environment depending on role and assignment. The position may involve routine use of office, clinical, or electronic systems and equipment. Duties may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and working at a computer. Work hours may include evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended shifts based on program needs. This position is classified as sedentary work.
