Reporting directly to the Vice President & General Counsel for North America, this position provides counsel to internal clients on legal matters within recognized areas of expertise and responsibility, to preserve and protect the rights and interests of the company; and manages outside counsel in claims and litigation as they arise.

This position is eligible for HYBRID flexible work arrangements.

Responsibilities:
The Senior Counsel – NA Labor & Employment will:
  • Maintain expert knowledge and awareness of legislation, regulations and caselaw with respect to US/Canadian employment and benefits to reduce business risk and ensure compliance within the limits prescribed by law.
  • Counsel and advise Human Resources team with respect to labor and benefits matters including legal questions, process reviews, policy creation and implementation, and training.
  • Direct and advise outside legal counsel during all phases of employment-related claims and litigation to protect CNH business interests; develop and guide strategy in conjunction with CNH objectives.
  • Manage outside counsel, fees and case budgets; set and monitor appropriate reserves; recommend settlement and trial strategies.
  • Review contracts related to hiring, consulting and employee benefits.
  • Provide M&A transaction support with regard to labor and employment due diligence, contractual provisions and acquisition integration.

The annual salary for this role is $136,500 - $200,200 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)

Qualifications:
The qualified candidate will have:
  • J.D. Degree and a current member of the appropriate State Bar.
  • Minimum 7 years related experience in-house and/or in labor and employment practice of major law firm. In-house experience preferred but not required with experience directly advising in-house clients.
  • Experience either working for a manufacturing company or a manufacturing client.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Proven experience providing guidance and advice to internal clients on hiring, employment, employee discipline, termination, handling of claims, training, policies and other Human Resources-related areas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide timely, practical answers to questions from business clients.
  • Independent thinking and clear strategic analysis.
  • Willingness to respond to clients and counsel beyond regular business hours when needed.
