Description:
Your Role: Senior Counsel, Global TradeAs Senior Counsel, Global Trade, you will be part of the Legal team to deliver expert guidance on complex U.S. and international trade regulations. In this role, you'll be responsible for advancing Elanco's global trade compliance strategy, managing cross-functional risks, and serving as the primary legal authority for global supply chain and import/export operations.
Your Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary legal expert and strategic advisor on U.S. and global trade law, including customs regulations, OFAC sanctions, export controls (EAR/ITAR), and antiboycott requirements.
- Lead the development and execution of global trade compliance policies, internal audits, and remediation programs to integrate trade risk management into supply chain and finance frameworks.
- Provide high-level counsel on complex trade issues such as tariff classification, country-of-origin determinations, antidumping duties (AD/CVD), and forced labor due diligence.
- Drive enterprise-wide solutions for duty optimization and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) strategies while managing engagements with government agencies such as CBP, BIS, and OFAC.
- Manage legal aspects of customs investigations, voluntary self-disclosures, and trade due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures to ensure seamless business integration.
- What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):
- Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Experience: A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in international trade law, encompassing CBP regulations, HTS classification, customs valuation, and sanctions compliance within a law firm or multinational environment.
- Key Skills: Expertise in drafting trade compliance policies/training materials and advising on trade compliance across international jurisdictions and supply chains.
- What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications):
- Experience in the pharmaceutical, animal health, or life sciences industry.
- Working knowledge of EU and other major international export control and sanctions regimes.
- Familiarity with Global Trade Management systems, such as SAP GTS.
- Knowledge of FDA and USDA import requirements applicable to veterinary pharmaceuticals and biologics.
- Prior experience managing trade-related aspects of large-scale M&A transactions and post-closing integration.
