About the role:
As Senior Counsel, Energy Systems you will provide comprehensive, high-quality and practical advice to internal clients in the An American Electrical Equipment Manufacturing Company Energy Systems (new plants) Business Unit regarding commercial customer contracts, supplier contracts, claims, and strategic legal issues. You will work with internal clients at all management levels, in-house colleagues, and manage outside counsel in accomplishing this objective. The primary focus will be new plant matters in North America, but you will support the global business and which may involve projects in the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere.
You will report to the Deputy General Counsel, Energy Systems & Regulatory and be located at our Cranberry Township, PA location. Hybrid Work Schedule.

You will report to the Deputy General Counsel, Energy Systems & Regulatory and be located at our Cranberry Township, PA location. Hybrid Work Schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support as a strategic partner to the Energy Systems commercial team. This includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements and related legal advice.
- Provide prompt, practical, and risk-informed advice and counsel to internal clients on engineering, procurement and construction agreements, teaming agreements and joint ventures, engineering services agreements and feasibility studies. You will represent us in commercial negotiations and disputes, working and negotiating with opposing counsel representing utilities, project developers, construction partners, and others.
- Consistent with the An American Electrical Equipment Manufacturing Company Global Ethics Code, facilitate business objectives while maintaining compliance with laws and regulations and minimizing commercial legal risks. Engage with specialists to mitigate risks to the company in ethics, antibribery, antitrust, export controls, privacy, regulatory, labor & employment, tax, environmental, and safety matters.
- Remain current on legal developments within scope of responsibilities and provide updates to clients as warranted.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- 5+ years of experience representing clients in complex commercial contract negotiations or commercial litigation matters, either in-house at an international company, in a law firm, or both.
- Experience providing legal advice on the full scope of commercial business issues, especially engineering, procurement, and construction contract negotiations.
- Admitted to practice in a US jurisdiction is required, as is eligibility to be licensed in Pennsylvania.
- Working knowledge of related areas of the law, including international disputes, intellectual property law, and international arbitration/dispute resolution.
- Experience with international NEC or FIDIC contract forms also beneficial.
- Experience developing high-quality legal documents, including commercial agreements, letters and other external correspondence, memoranda.
