About the role:
We are seeking a Senior Counsel to join our legal team, reporting to the General Counsel. This role will serve as the primary legal advisor on labor and employment matters while also supporting the management of general litigation. The ideal candidate is a pragmatic problem-solver who can provide business-oriented advice, manage outside counsel effectively, and operate with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day labor and employment advice and counsel to People Operations team, management, and business leaders on a wide range of matters including hiring, performance management, terminations, accommodations, leave, compensation, employee relations, and workplace investigations
- Draft, review, and update employment-related policies, handbooks, and agreements
- Advise on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across a multi-state remote workforce
- Manage employment-related disputes, agency charges (EEOC, state agencies), and litigation, including oversight of outside counsel
- Manage the company's immigration program, including oversight of outside immigration counsel, visa sponsorships, and compliance with I-9 and related requirements
- Support the management of general commercial litigation, including vendor disputes, contract claims, and other business disputes
- Develop and deliver training on employment law topics for managers and People Operations
- Partner with People Operations on strategic initiatives and process improvements
- Monitor legal developments and assess their impact on company policies and practices
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Minimum 5 years of labor and employment law experience, with a mix of advice/counsel and litigation experience preferred
- Experience managing outside counsel and legal budgets
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, and state equivalents
- Excellent judgment, communication skills, and ability to translate legal risk into practical business guidance
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Experience in the technology or healthcare industry is a plus but not required
Pay range: $120,000-$178,000 USD
This is an exempt position. The salary range is for Base Salary. Compensation will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, skill set, years of experience, and the employee's geographic location.
