The Senior Counsel, Employment Law supports business operations and strategic initiatives by working closely with global HR teams to anticipate and resolve potential issues, assess and manage risk, and offer practical, creative solutions. Ensure consistency and collaboration at an enterprise level, with primary responsibility for the Americas and coordination responsibility for the EMEA and APAC regions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate and communicate with members of the GLC team and business clients to perform advanced assignments and projects involving employment law matters, including global HR policies and practices, performance management, recruiting, hiring, termination, compensation and benefits, as directed.
- Collaborate and communicate with members of the GLC team and global HR to develop and implement workplace, employment and benefits policies and programs that balance legal risk with business impact, as directed.
- Proactively support global HR to manage employee relations issues (including with respect to internal investigations and audits, as directed) and to sustain and enhance employment law compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Provide advanced level of timely, high-quality legal advice and assistance to Global Law & Compliance (“GLC”) colleagues and business clients with an emphasis on employee relations, legal compliance, and benefits matters.
- Proactively support and facilitate business objectives with a responsive, service-oriented attitude and strong work ethic, appropriately escalating matters when necessary.
- Assist, as assigned, in preparing contracts and other essential legal documents.
- Apply advanced knowledge and experience to identify legal issues and provide advice on alternatives to mitigate risk to the enterprise while achieving client goals and objectives.
- Research and analyze legal issues and questions using appropriate resources.
- Collaborate on other projects as assigned.
Candidate Requisites
Education & Experience:
- Law degree from US accredited law school
- Bachelor's Degree from accredited university or college
- Licensed to practice law in at least one US state
- 6+ years' experience as an employment and employee benefits attorney in a law firm or in a corporate legal function
Preferred:
- Experience as in-house counsel for a public company providing legal advice and support on all employment law matters
- Experience in a global business enterprise with operations on various continents with different legal systems and cultures
Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of US employment laws and regulations
- Advanced client counseling skills in translating business needs and problems into viable and accepted solutions
- Excellent client service and interpersonal skills, with continual focus and dedication to high level of client service
- Excellent skills with respect to drafting, review, proofreading, negotiation, persuasion, and oral and written communication. Demonstrated ability to clearly present appropriate business terminology and concepts
- Highly organized and results oriented with strong attention to detail
- Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to set goals, multitask and prioritize workload
- Ability to be flexible when needed, take initiative, and demonstrate accountability
- Ability to interact and work collaboratively and constructively with people at various levels within and outside the organization

- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Committed to acquiring new skills and knowledge of changing technologies and practices
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications with an ability to develop and maintain document automation templates, acquire new skills, and knowledge of changing technologies

Compensation Range:
$146,950.00 - $218,950.00 Annual
Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
