Team OverviewThis position serves the Global Censorship Group and advances ADF's strategic objectives to combat corporate and state-sponsored censorship, domestically and globally.
This role combines high-level legal strategy, thought leadership, and public engagement with a mission-integration function, ensuring that ADF's legal, legislative, coalition, research, and communications efforts related to censorship are strategically aligned, sequenced, and effective.
This position is ideal for a senior attorney who is both a deep strategic thinker and a trusted integrator, capable of helping translate shared strategy into coordinated action across teams while preserving the integrity and expertise of each function.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy Development & Mission Integration
- Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the SVP on organizational censorship priorities, decisions, and challenges.
- Assist in developing and implementing integrated legislative, regulatory, litigation, coalition, research, and communications strategies addressing corporate and state-sponsored censorship.
- Assist in developing, executing, and evaluating annual and multi-year strategic plans, including goals, metrics, and reporting.
- Work in close partnership with senior leadership to help translate agreed-upon strategy into coordinated execution, including aligning timing, sequencing, and priorities across relevant teams.
- Ensure accountability for censorship initiatives across departments and proactively identify risks and opportunities.
- Introduce innovative and proactive approaches that solve problems and strengthen and advance the ministry's mission.
Legal Strategy, Analysis & Advocacy
- Conduct complex legal research and analysis that leads to legislative, regulatory, and policy solutions addressing corporate and state-sponsored censorship.
- Conduct complex legal research and analysis that informs litigation strategies designed to combat or expose corporate and state-sponsored censorship.
- Provide strategic counsel on litigation and other quasi-judicial or administrative agencies of government and coordinate with litigation teams on in- and out-of-court anti-censorship efforts.
- Conduct legal and topical research and produce memos, articles, and white papers on corporate and state-sponsored censorship.
- Provide legal strategy and support to shareholders using the proxy process to hold companies accountable for engaging in censorship, as part of a broader corporate accountability strategy.
- Provide legal advice to CEOs, General Counsels, and other business leaders on issues related to censorship, free expression, and corporate responsibility.
- Assist in building, equipping, and advising networks of ideologically aligned business leaders and allies to resist and counter censorship pressures in the corporate and financial sectors.
- Assist in drafting model legislation, preparing expert testimony, and testifying on legislation and regulations concerning corporate and state-sponsored censorship.
Public Engagement & External Leadership
- Handle media interviews and public speaking engagements related to corporate and state-sponsored censorship.
- Work collaboratively within ADF and with external allies, coalition partners, and subject-matter experts to advance shared objectives.
- Contribute to public-facing strategy discussions, campaigns, and initiatives related to censorship, in coordination with communications and coalition partners.
Minimum Qualifications:
- JD., licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction
- 10+ years of relevant legal experience
