Job Purpose:??
The Senior Counsel for Consumer Regulatory Compliance is responsible for providing timely, practical and business oriented legal advice and solutions to the Company regarding the full range of evolving consumer regulatory matters impacting its current and planned business activities. The Senior Counsel must establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal business partners it supports including: Operations, Marketing, Product Development, Technology/IT, Business Development, and Compliance. The scope of matters ranges nationwide across all Upbound lines of business and may include international lines of business. Additionally, the Senior Counsel may develop the skills of other legal team members who support these functions. The company seeks an experienced consumer regulatory attorney with a passion for operating in a fast-paced and exciting professional environment and for becoming an integral member of the legal team and business partner.?The position will support enterprise-wide consumer regulatory matters.?

This job reports to the Vice President of Consumer Regulatory Compliance & Contracts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide advice and solutions to internal business partners regarding the full range of federal and state consumer regulatory compliance matters in connection with strategic initiatives, product development, marketing and advertising campaigns, commercial agreements and other business priorities.
  • Develop and maintain proficiency in state lease-to-own regulations, and other applicable laws and rules, in order to assist the company in maintaining compliance with associated requirements.
  • Assist and support the Company in responding to audits, requests for information, and investigations of consumer regulatory compliance filed with state and federal government agencies.?
  • Oversee the development and enhancement of consumer facing public communications and other internal guidance to ensure ongoing compliance across the Company.
  • Continually evaluate current practices, procedures, and supporting technologies; introduce enhancements that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the legal processes and compliance with complex and changing consumer regulations.
  • Manage timely implementation of regulatory guidance while ensuring that leaders and internal stakeholders are kept informed of their roles and responsibilities.
  • Lead and or serve on cross functional business teams to develop and maintain training materials and execute legal initiatives and projects associated with compliance procedures, specifications, and corporate policies.
  • Coordinate and work with outside counsel to provide all necessary documents, witness interviews, track deadlines, issue litigation holds, and provide assistance as requested
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned or required

Job Requirements:
  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • Admitted to a state bar and actively licensed and in good standing to practice law
  • At least 7+ years' experience as a licensed attorney at a reputable law firm and/or in-house for a consumer retail or consumer finance/payments company
  • At least 7+ years of experience in consumer regulatory matters with an emphasis in consumer finance/payments or retail business lines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Position can be based in Plano, Texas or Draper, Utah, with a preference for Plano, Texas
  • Travel, at least quarterly, between the Plano and Draper offices
