A Leading Developer is an innovative industry leader in development, design, construction, financing, and management of utility scale energy storage projects. We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and commercially minded Senior Corporate Counsel with extensive experience in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) matters to partner with the EPC and Finance teams during the pre-construction phase through to commercial operation to negotiate financeable agreements, support risk mitigation measures and ensure compliance with existing financing agreement and investment tax credit eligibility requirements.

This position reports to the Deputy General Counsel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with the EPC Team on strategic procurement initiatives, including framework agreement negotiations.
  • Provide construction law guidance and support best practices.
  • Identify and advise of risks and support risk mitigation measures.
  • Support ITC compliance and ensure compliance with financial covenants and company policy.
  • Resolve or manage legal disputes arising out of the EPC function.
  • Provide quality, timely legal advice to management for day-to-day matters and major ongoing projects.
  • Lead legal trainings for the EPC team.
  • Oversee the drafting of legal documents.
  • Work to establish professional relationships with key stakeholders within and outside the Company related to areas of subject matter expertise.
  • Manage outside counsel to maximize efficiency, including managing litigation matters through external litigation counsel.
  • Lead and/or serve on committees, special projects or other assignments as directed to further departmental goals.
  • Assist in developing and implementing company legal policies, processes, and standards related to the EPC function.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Jurisprudence degree (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • 10+ years of experience practicing law.
  • Licensed to practice law in California, New York, Texas, or licensed to practice in any state in the US.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with a keen ability to lead others, including other employees in legal department.
  • Solid understanding of renewable energy/battery storage project implementation and standards.
  • Seasoned legal and business judgment.
  • Promotes collaboration and builds consensus.
  • Outstanding people skills, including an ability to maintain calm and effective exchanges by all parties during stressful situations executive level reporting that ensure timely action and decision making in time-pressured scenarios.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously.
  • Proven effective negotiation skills.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative, attention to detail and accountability, and an ability to multi-task and work in a deadline driven environment.
