Job Description:
Oversee litigated workers compensation, auto liability, and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop defense strategy for complex auto liability, employment, contracts, and workers compensation litigation in jurisdictions across the United States.
  • Select and oversee outside counsel, evaluate exposure, conduct negotiations and serve as company representative at mediations, hearings and trials.
  • Oversees environmental compliance related to storage tanks (above and below ground), storm water, waste water, hazmat and solid waste.
  • Maintain and implement environmental processes and policies. Provide support for continuous improvement.
  • Review and manage internal company policies, involving specific oversight over legal and document retention policies.
  • Conduct research and provide legal opinions to senior leaders; proactively monitor developments in relevant law and advise company regarding the same.

Requirements:
Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Course of Study: Juris Doctorate degree from accredited law school and admitted to practice law in Iowa. Experience with environmental regulatory compliance a plus.

Experience: 10+ years experience in claims, litigation, and regulatory compliance or other relevant area is required.

Requires an understanding of the transporation industry and experience with interpretation of city, county, state, and federal statutes, ordinances, regulations and guidance relating to environmental matters. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities. Ability to work the time necessary to complete projects or meet deadlines. Frequent travel required.
