We're looking for an experienced and collaborative Senior Compliance Counsel to join our team. You Will:
  • Provide strategic legal advice and guidance on a broad range of compliance issues, including telemarketing, identity verification, fraud prevention, registered agent and CMRA operations.
  • Develop, implement and monitor internal policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure organizational compliance.
  • Apply excellent legal and business judgment in performing risk assessments and audits to identify and size potential compliance gaps.
  • Stay abreast of evolving legal and regulatory landscapes relevant to LegalZoom's operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and fulfillment to assist the company with meeting its compliance obligations.
  • Contribute to other legal department goals and duties as needed.

You Have:
  • A JD from an accredited law school; licensed and in good standing to practice law.
  • A minimum of 6 years of legal experience, including at least 2 years advising on compliance issues at a leading law firm. In-house experience is preferred.
  • Experience in developing and implementing compliance programs.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and highly organized. Ability to guide projects from inception through completion.
  • Outstanding judgment with the ability to understand the criticality and urgency of issues and prioritize them as appropriate within a fast-paced environment, providing clarity and direction to the team and to others throughout the company.
  • Strong business judgment to anticipate legal issues or risks and build the processes and systems to prevent them from occurring.
  • Ability to apply a high level of discretion, common sense and good judgment to ambiguous situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate complex legal concepts confidently and effectively across multiple departments and levels within the organization.
