Overview:
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation's largest small business advocacy organization, is looking to hire a Sr Attorney to join its Small Business Legal Center team.

Responsibilities:
The Sr Attorney supports SBLC's charitable purpose of providing legal representation and educational support to small businesses nationwide while ensuring compliance with applicable laws. It oversees legal activities in designated areas, including drafting and coordinating amicus briefs, preparing regulatory comment letters, developing legal policy positions, building external relationships, managing litigation and outside counsel, and educating small-business owners on legal matters. The position reports directly to the SBLC Executive Director.

Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; work outcomes must meet and / or exceed productivity and quality standards. Must be able to work as part of a cooperative team environment and independent of direct supervision; adhere to Company and Department policies and procedures, including regular and predictable attendance. Performs other duties as needed.

The salary range for this exempt position is $140,000-$160,000. The position will be based in our DC office and will require 3 days in office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • Admission to practice of law in jurisdiction where working
  • Excellent legal skills and significant experience with administrative and litigation processes
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Ability and experience in cooperation with multiple organizations to achieve objectives
  • Public speaking experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively on legal matters with non-lawyers
  • Understanding of the needs of small and independent businesses.
  • Comply with applicable attorney Rules of Professional Conduct, prohibitions on unauthorized practice of law, and limitations on organization with 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3) tax status
