Summary of the Job:
Provide general legal advice to employees and management representatives of the Banking business units such as Agribusiness, Commercial Banking, Commercial Payments, Core Banking, Mortgage, Small Business, and Operations. Knowledge of the assigned business unit's business/industry, policies and procedures is required. May be called upon to participate in special projects and complete assignments as requested. Reports to and is accountable to the Vice President, Banking Risk, in the First Line of Defense.

About This Role:
Key Accountabilities:
  • Legal Advice & Counsel - Provide legal advice and counsel to business units. Develop and present recommendations to business unit representation and assist the implementation of approved solutions.
    • Draft, review and negotiate contracts for supported business units, with a strong focus on commercial loan documents and day-to-day matters associated with commercial banking and commercial lending.
    • Analyze collateral issues and issues associated with secured transactions, including both UCC related collateral or real estate related issues.
    • Analyze issues, conduct research and develop recommendations to mitigate legal risk for the supported business units.
    • Assess level of risk for services and activities of the business units supported.
    • Monitor, research, and interpret regulatory changes, legislative trends, and legislative developments. Provide ongoing and documented guidance as to their impact on products, services, and operations.
  • Outside Counsel – Effectively collaborate with and manage external counsel providing legal risk services including the identification of appropriate counsel, contracting with counsel for services and managing the cost of counsel.
  • Legal Risk Management – Ensure that assigned business units have access to and utilize available legal risk management services for all third-party relationships.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience as a transactional lawyer, with strongly desired experience in the financial services industry, specifically commercial lending and secured transactions.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Nebraska or other footprint state (state bar membership required).
  • Deep knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to supported business units, including UCC Art. 9.
  • Experience in the use of LLMs and GenAI, with a willingness to use and incorporate into daily workstream.
  • Extensive research and analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.

Candidates must possess unrestricted work authorization and not require future sponsorship.

Compensation:
Compensation range (base pay): $88,067.00-$145,309.00
This role may have a specific starting pay within this range.

Final compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.
