Description:
Aleshire & Wynder is seeking an experienced Senior Associate Attorney to join our Labor & Employment Practice Group. This position provides the opportunity to represent California public agencies in a variety of labor relations and employment matters, including collective bargaining, labor negotiations, employee discipline, grievance matters, PERB proceedings, and administrative hearings.

The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of labor and employment law experience, the ability to supervise junior associates, and the ability to independently manage client relationships and complex legal matters with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will work closely with public agency clients and provide practical, strategic legal advice while serving as a trusted resource to agency leadership and management.

Responsibilities:
  • Advise California public agency employers on labor and employment matters.
  • Assist clients with labor negotiations and collective bargaining matters.
  • Provide legal counsel regarding employee discipline, performance issues, and related employment matters.
  • Handle union grievances, employee grievances, and other labor relations matters.
  • Represent public agency clients in grievance arbitrations, disciplinary proceedings, administrative hearings, and other employment-related proceedings.
  • Represent clients in proceedings before the California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB).
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, advisory opinions, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Develop legal strategies and recommend courses of action based on applicable law, client objectives, and legal risk considerations.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support junior associates and legal staff.
  • Assist with practice group development, client training, and business development initiatives.

Qualifications:
Qualifications
  • Must be a member of the California State Bar.
  • 7+ years of experience practicing labor and employment law.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and review the work of junior associates.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex legal matters with minimal oversight.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, professionalism, and commitment to client service.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience representing public agencies, municipalities, special districts, or other public sector employers.
  • Experience with labor negotiations and collective bargaining.
  • Experience handling employee discipline matters.
  • Experience managing union grievances and other labor relations issues.
  • Experience representing employers in grievance arbitrations, disciplinary proceedings, and administrative hearings.
  • Knowledge of proceedings before the California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB).
  • Familiarity with public-sector labor relations and collective bargaining environments.
