Your Impact:
  • Advise on the creation and governance of HOAs, ensuring compliance with Washington Condominium Act and other state/local laws.
  • Draft and review condominium declarations, public offering statements, bylaws, and related documents.
  • Provide legal counsel on purchase and sale agreements, easements, title matters, and due diligence.
  • Ensure all acquisitions and dispositions comply with Habitat's mission and affordability requirements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with general contractors, subcontractors, architects, and consultants.
  • Support risk management and dispute resolution related to construction and development projects.
  • Assist in property acquisitions – drafting purchase and sale agreements and associated documents, guiding title and closing.
  • Assist in structuring resale restrictions, ground leases, and affordability covenants to ensure long-term affordability.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel when specialized expertise is required.
  • Other legal support as needed, which may include review and drafting of grant agreements, purchase and sale contracts, development agreements, LLC agreements, and other services in support of Habitat's mission.

Qualifications:
What you bring:
  • J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in Washington State.
  • 4–7 years of legal experience, with emphasis in real property and construction law.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Washington condominium law and HOA formation.
  • Strong experience drafting and negotiating construction-related contracts.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven nonprofit environment.
  • Experience with affordable housing development and nonprofit housing organizations.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local affordable housing regulations and funding sources.
  • Passion for community development and equity in housing.
