Job Overview:
The Senior Associate Counsel position for the Division of General Counsel represents and provides counsel to TDMHSAS and is responsible for assisting with overseeing procurement and grant contracting for the Department. This is a hybrid position which currently requires reporting to the office in Nashville one day per week; in-office requirements are subject to change. The Senior Associate Counsel for the Division of General Counsel will report directly to the Director of Contracts.

Key Responsibilities:
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Overseeing and ensuring the timely execution of all Department grant contracts.
  • Assisting with Department procurement contracts.
  • Drafting and reviewing contracts and contract-related documents.
  • Submitting and approving contracts and contract-related documents in Edison.
  • Advising senior Department staff related to state contracting processes and requirements.
  • Supervising a team of three (3) contract specialists.
  • Supporting the Division of General Counsel on other projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Valid Tennessee law license in good standing.
  • Five (5) or more years of continuous legal practice, preferably with a focus on contract law.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe products and have the ability to learn new software.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage workload to meet specific timelines and deadlines.
  • Innovative thinking, problem-solving skills, and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong decision-making and ethical judgment required.
  • Extra consideration provided to those with experience with State of Tennessee contracting processes.
